A video of a Chicago policeman slamming a person into the pavement has added new tensions to town’s strained police-public relations, with the mayor on Friday calling it “very disturbing.”

Police stated the incident befell Thursday within the Chatham neighborhood in Chicago’s Southeast Aspect, when a person, who had allegedly been ingesting in public, spat on a police officer as he was being detained.


The video exhibits the policeman selecting up the person as they each stood subsequent to a police car and hurling him to the road, the person’s head apparently hitting the curb.

The person lay immobile as a bystander filmed the incident.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot stated on Twitter that she had considered the video.

“Whereas a single video doesn’t depict the whole lot of the interactions between the police and the person, this explicit video may be very disturbing,” she stated.

The incident was being investigated by the Civilian Workplace of Police Accountability, an impartial unit created in 2016 to handle public complaints, she added.

“It’s my expectation that the investigation will likely be complete and expedited in order that the general public could acquire a whole image of what occurred,” stated Lightfoot.

“This incident is underneath investigation because the actions within the video are regarding,” Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi stated.
