One other Fuwaku participant, Tony Hartley, 71, is initially from the UK.

“I used to be on the Tokyo Sevens and I obtained chatting to a man subsequent to me as a result of he had a shirt on that stated: ‘Fuwaku Rugby Membership since 1948’, which is once I was born, so I used to be curious,” he says.

“He stated he may introduce me to the membership, which he did the next week and I’ve been enjoying kind of ever since. That was seven years in the past.

“I used to be actually stunned as a result of the scene does not actually exist within the UK, actually not at 60 [or] 70. It was a very welcome shock and a great way of creating pals.”
